Basic Life Support & Safe use of an AED

Practical training in-house incorporating your business systems which is designed to give you and your staff the 'confidence and competence' in management of an non-responsive, non- breathing casualty, safe use of the equipment and Basic Life Support. Covering general responsibilities of key persons when dealing with a casualty who is breathing normally, or not. It includes managing an incident, maintaining an open airway for a breathing casualty and resuscitation (CPR) for a casualty who is not breathing normally.

The course is delivered in two parts: a two hour live Zoom call followed by a four hour site visit practical.

Under the Regulatory Reform Order 2005 (England and Wales) the responsible person must ensure employees are provided with adequate training. This in-house, practical training course is designed to ensure staff take responsibility for adopting the right behaviours and procedures, with focus being on reducing the risk of fire and equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to respond efficiently and effectively to an emergency.
Delegates will be trained in the practical application of the skills needed to perform their duties and aid the responsible person (the employer) to fulfill his mandatory requirements.

Immediate Life support is a more advanced form of Life support than Basic Life support suitable for dental professionals who practice conscious sedation techniques in line with the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines and the Standards for Conscious Sedation in the Provisions of Dental Care 2015.
This accredited course covers:
- A review of advance life support guidance.
- Basic ECG wave format and define a shockable rhythm (ADV SED)
- Respiratory and Circulatory standards & inadequacies.
- Recognise infection control risks.
- Recognise respiratory problems.
- Recognise Circulatory problems
- Common medical emergencies within a dental practice
- Review internal and external respiration.
- Demonstrate Jaw thrust technique and Demonstrate IPPV technique.

Infection Prevention and Control

This core subject course offers guidance to assist the team to operate safely in line with current legislation and guidance. Covering blood borne virus' and communicable diseases, how they spread and practical measures to control and prevent the risk of transmission. Includes practical advice and measures for Covid-19.

This practical course covers the common Medical Emergencies within a Dental Practice for teams to ensure their skills and knowledge is up to date. This course is a GDC CPD Core subject topic which is highly recommended to be included within the cycle at a minimum of 10 hours (2 hours per annum). The course is in line with BNF guidenace and GDC guidance to facilitate 6 monthly practice based scenario training.

All staff are required, by Law, to undertake specialised safeguarding training in identification of possible signs of abuse and neglect in children and venerable persons. The course covers how to deal with these concerns. CQC also detail this training as a mandatory requirement.
